The Student Unmanned Aerial Systems Competition (SUAS) hosted by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) is an annual mock search-and-rescue autonomous drone competition held at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. Teams hail from universities all across the United States and all over the world, which makes it particularly exciting to meet other college students interested in drones and to see the designs others have come up with.
The competition is typically held in the middle of June, which unfortunately is during Spring Quarter Finals. The competition goals change slightly year to year, but for the most part it has several main objectives:
This is our first self-designed and built fixed wing drone! Flappy 2.0 has a nearly 100 inch wingspan and over 80 inches long. Flappy 2.0 will be capable of all that Spinny 2.0 will be capable of, including autonomous flight, computer vision, and payload drop.
This is our second iteration from Spinny last year. A noticable upgrade is the longer landing gear legs. This year, we introduced the deployable ground vehicle!

UAS@UCLA's first ever multicopter competition drone! This quadcopter weighs 35 pounds and has 30 inch propellers! It features a gimbal that can carry a DSLR camera and a water bottle payload.

UAS@UCLA's first ever competition drone! Flappy was a fixed wing drone built on a RMRC Anaconda outfitted with a Pixhawk Mini, a Raspberry Pi companion computer, an onboard camera, and numerous antennas.
